Slicing Basics¶
In the quick start, you clicked “Slice” without changing anything.
This page explains what that step actually does.
—
What is slicing?¶
Slicing converts a 3D model into instructions that the printer can follow.
In simple terms:
The model is cut into many thin layers
The printer builds it layer by layer
—
Why is slicing important?¶
The slicing settings determine:
How smooth the surface is
How strong the model is
How long the print takes
—
Key settings (simple explanation)¶
Layer Height¶
Smaller → smoother surface, longer time
Larger → faster print, rougher surface
—
Infill¶
Low infill → lighter, faster
High infill → stronger, uses more material
—
Supports¶
Needed for parts that hang in the air
Without support, some parts may fail
—
Do I need to change these?¶
No, not at the beginning.
Default settings are already good enough for most prints.
—
When should I learn more?¶
Only after you:
Successfully print a few models
Start noticing quality or strength issues
—
Summary¶
Slicing = preparing your model for printing.
You don’t need to master it to get started, but understanding it helps you improve results later.
